| I was playing CoD4 this morning (and was doing great ) and I got a challenge finished. When the message came up saying "You've finished the ______ challenge!", my computer froze and a whole bunch of vertical lines showed up. I couldn't do anything, no task manager, no switching to windows, so I had to force shut down by holding the power button. I started it up and it asked me how I would like to start up windows. I selected Start Normally. I let it turn on and went downstairs to eat. When I came back up, it showed my background and everything, but I couldn't move my mouse cursor and everything was frozen again. I force-restarted again. I waited for everything to load up and then opened CoD4 again. It worked perfectly fine for about 10 minutes then the image froze and I force restarted again. Now I'm typing this. HELP! | |

| I think ive encountered this problem before but im not 100% sure, you could try starting in safe mode and see if that helps then and do a virus scan or see which files are corrupted, or you could do system restore to a date/time before this happened, if that doesnt help then im not sure | |

| I played CoD1 and the same thing happened, except not as fast.
My computer just starts doing a humming sound (something like a "DRRRRRRRR") like a chainsaw lol.
Before any of this happened, I did a defragment on my hard disk and a full system scan with Norton earlier this morning.

| That sound is most likely either your hard drive or one of the fans in your computer.
If it's coming from your hard drive, then your hard drive is going bad.
If it's coming from one of the fans, it's probably because your computer is overheating.

| Second system restore failed. Currently undoing the restore.
Y'know, now that you mention it, my left fan has been getting kinda loud and would start going extremely fast at some times.

| ASUS G73jh Gamer Laptop
I was about to open it up and take a look at it and my dad stopped me. He said that if I open it up and mess around with it, it voids the warrenty.
I have a feeling BestBuy is gonna hate me again...
I am never buying another ASUS product again. Going with a desktop next and might just get a tablet for the portability end.

| Sorry peeps, Rune was busy playing on his 3DS. This sounds a lot like the fan on your graphics card is not spinning properly, had this happen to my girl just a week ago. Only fix I could come up with was getting a new graphics card.
But I suppose you could check your fans, simply take off your side panel and watch all your fans, see which one might not be spinning properly and by that I mean it's making a full 360 degree rotation.
Get back to me when you find out if it really is a fan causing this issue, Rune is going to play some more 3DS and get some sleep.

| Just got back from BestBuy.
They ran a series of tests that maxed out my computer and a complete virus scan. Both tests said my software and hardware is clean and in good working condition.
I refused to have it sent out to the factory because they're not going to be doing much more than what BestBuy did, plus they might damage it again.
I had a long talk to their best Geek Squad tech and he said that I might be forcing it too much with my games and thus causing it to overheat. He also said that laptops are not made for games, even if it has beast desktop computer parts in it. It simply cannot keep everything running at max graphics and keep cool in a confined area such that a laptop has. He recommended me getting a desktop instead.
I will be trying to sell this thing and getting a desktop. BestBuy offered me $260 for a trade in, when I bought it at $1,300. No thanks. I've had it for 3 months.
Craigslist here I come. If I can get $1000 for it, it's goooone.
