| So I know at least one of you has taken this (DeV stand up!).. Just curious on a scale of 1-10 how hard you would rate it.. I'm probably gonna be taking it soon (turn 18 in October, probably shipping out to Navy basic shortly thereafter) and I got a book to help with some of it, but just curious as to how hard I should study.. Thanks in advance! - Mo | |

| So first things first...boo navy go army on a serious note, I can't personally scale the ASVAB. It's composed of 9 different subject matter: 1.)General Science. 2.)Arithmetic Reasoning. 3.)Word Knowledge. 4.)Paragraph Comprehension. 5.)Mathematics Knowledge. 6.)Electronics Information. 7.)Auto and Shop Information. 8.)Mechanical Comprehension. 9.)Assembling Objects I don't know a lot about Navy recruiters, but when I was at the Army recruiters office, a few days before I went MEPS they gave me a practice ASVAB. But in all honesty I didn't do too well on the ASVAB, i know the Navy requires a specific score so yeah i recommend you study. More information on the ASVAB can be found here: http://official-asvab.com/index.htm | |

So Navy is the next best thing, lol. & alright. I bought "ASVAB for Dummies".. Supposed to be one of the best books you can get, so yeah. Don't think I'll have any trouble on the English type sections, I'm just worried about the Math (which I'm awful at), so thanks for the heads up(s)! If anyone else has any helpful info on the test, toss it in..

| I havent personally took it but in high school a bunch of kids took it and most of them passed it except one, but he was a little lower on the grading scale to put nicely... everyone i talked to said most of it was common sense as long as you have a little mechanical skill

generally speaking it is common sense stuff, except for the math portion since it incorporates algebra and some other higher math level skills, and you really can't fail or pass the ASVASB, you'll get a group of scores and one overall score you're overall determines if you're eligible for certain branches. I know the Coast Guard and Air Force require a 70 or higher over all score, the Marines and Army don't require a set overall score though, what those two branches look at is your sub scores, thats how they know what jobs you qualify for. but the Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard look at your overall score and sub scores. Do be careful in the Navy though Mo, you don't get to pick your job. Only the Army lets you pick your job, every other branch assigns you a job based on your ASVASB scores

| I personally would choose the Marines, but it doesnt matter because in time of need all branches are there to supply support. Best of luck with the test Mo. | |
